I write this as we are into our 6th week of social distancing and self-isolation. I spend a lot of time in my studio each day, but not unlike what I would ordinarily do. However, I must say I miss roaming my local Barnes and Noble bookstore and shopping the aisles of Hobby Lobby. And of course I miss not being able to meet with my Kaligrafos friends monthly. Here are a few things that I’ve been doing (besides my home chores!).
Fort Worth’s calligraphy guild offered an online program through Zoom for their April meeting. The presenter was a young man from the Houston area, Tamer Ghoneim. His demo was called Circles on Steroids. After his online demonstration I tried my hand at writing in circles and really enjoy the process. You can Google the Fort Worth Calligraphy Guild and follow the prompts to see the recorded session.
I’ll be teaching an on-hands program for the Fort Worth Calligraphy Guild (via Zoom) in May and have been making triangle brush examples for demo purposes. And trying my hand at making some butterflies in the process.
Also spent time making Kaligrafos envelope/card exchanges for April and May. And designing Mother’s Day cards for my family members. I am thankful I’m no longer a young mother that has had to move into fulltime ‘teacher’ mode and supervise her children’s online school work! And to those of you who are doing just that, kudos to you!! Let’s hope things loosen up soon and we are able to go about the day in our usual manner.
