Review of the Valentine Social by Trish Manche
The Valentine Social this year was a beautifully executed High Tea co-chaired by Lynda Kemple and Sherry Barber. These ladies and their committee did a fabulous job decorating and organizing the event. This year’s event even included tiny cardstock teapot favors with chocolates for each attendee to take home.
In addition to the usual delicious punch and coffee, there was a variety of lovely teas from which to choose. Yummy brunch-style foods included Randy Stewart’s homemade chips and dip, some lovely quiches, scones, cookies, and other treats. This year we were treated to a chocolate fountain with fruit and other goodies to be dipped. Thank you to Margaret Mall who has organized the food donations for the past few years, making sure we have plenty of goodies to enjoy during the event.
There were so many wonderful raffle items donated by members which included two hand-carved stamp sets by our very own Rick Garlington, a handmade book by the Fab 5 donated by Betty Barna, a replica of the St John’s Bible with Gospels and Acts donated by Lucy Hight, and a leather messenger bag of art goodies by Javier Mardones-Hermillosa. There were three members who graciously donated their teaching talents for the silent auction, Carol Scott, June Baty, and Kathy Setina. Brenda Burns did an incredible job gathering the raffle items, putting them on display, and selling raffle tickets. There will be a list included of all those who made donations and all the lucky winners of the raffles and silent auction.
The main event was all the lovely valentines brought to be exchanged. There were some fabulous creations. This is always an opportunity to stretch our creativity and it did not disappoint. See many of the lovely valentines shown on the following pages. Thanks to the Master of Ceremonies, Tom Burns, who kept things moving along on track. Also thank you to all those who were there early to help setup and those who stayed to help clean up at the end. We are fortunate to have such a lovely location to host this annual event.
If you missed this year, be sure to attend next year. It’s always a treat and a good time to be had by all.
