Hello Kaligrafos members!
What a beautiful array of Valentines were on display at our Valentine social in February! Kudos to the team of Lynda Kemple and Sherry Barber, with assistance from Margaret Mall and others who brought refreshments and help set up and break down the event. Other special thanks go to Brenda Burns for the fun Raffle/Auction portion of our social. And thanks also to Angie Vangalis for the beautiful invitation design and lettering, and to Suzanne Levy for the invitation poem wording. It takes a village!!
When March rolls around, I go into ‘Springtime’ mode! The time has changed to allow us more sunlight during the day and our weather grows milder. Springtime in Texas is my favorite season. Everything outside starts sprouting, the birdies chirp a little happier, and I love the new green color that it brings to the trees and landscape. It also seems to ignite a new season of lettering and art within my soul, renewing a vibe of getting started again after a winter slumber. This could be a time to learn a new lettering style, finish a project that has been awaiting a new perspective, or get out those watercolors and paint some pretty spring flowers. How does springtime encourage your art?
We still have another Mother’s Day card making session on Saturday, March 21stfrom 10:00 am to 3:00 pm at my studio in Lewisville. You are welcome to stay and create for the entire 5 hours or come for as long as you are able. All cards and envelopes will be supplied, you need only bring your basic writing elements and any watercolors/brushes or decorative supplies you want to use (stamps, stamp pads, Cricut type items, embossing plates, etc.) Please consider joining me as we finish making Mother’s Day cards that will be delivered to the Dallas Genesis Women’s Shelter at the end of April. This community project helps children that have been affected by family violence to give their moms a lovely card for Mother’s Day.
Our March meeting will be full of learning opportunities as Tom Burns demonstrates the Pointed Pen Uncial alphabet. This style can be achieved using a straight or oblique pen staff. If you feel up to following along as Tom demos these fun letters, bring appropriate pen, paper and ink. This program is demonstration only, not individually instructional so you will hear the basics information to go forth and give it a try on your own. After the meeting and program, Tom will then be teaching our mini-workshop entitled Weaver Writing modified from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. This is a fun lettering style that is a good starting point for learning to use the pointed pen. If you haven’t signed up, you’ll be missing the fun!
See you at the March meeting!
